The first sailing weekends in 2010 had been rather cold so far, but this edition of the Trapezregatta in Steinhude the temperature reached almost 20 degrees Celsius. And with 50 participating FD's the sailing promised to be competitive. Most teams already arrived in Steinhude on Friday, a cold and stiff breeze welcoming them across the lake. A few boats already went out for some training, but most just prepared their boat and got into proper sailing mood by drinking some nice German beers (and admiring Kurt Prenzler's brand new FD, his 25th allegedly!).
Conditions the next day were quite different. The wind didn't even come close to what had been blowing the day before. Instead the wind started with a 2 to 3 Bft, decreasing in strength as the day wore on. Fortunately the race committee was efficient enough to let us sail three good races, of which two were shortened somewhat. Trapez regulars the Bojsen-Moller brothers were there to fight for a new title and with last year's winners GER-199 Dirk Bogumil and Michael Lisken not present the principal competition was GER-88 Kai Schafers and Martin Romberg and from Holland NED-32 Bas and Marc van der Pol. Some close sailing during the three races that Saturday, but in the end the Bojsen-Mollers gained the lead, closely followed by the GER-88 and the NED-32. Back on shore there was an excellent dinner at the Hannoverisches Yacht Club as usual, with lots of free beer.
Unfortunately, Sunday's wind wasn't enough to do any sailing with. After some hours waiting the committee decided to give it up and make do with yesterday's results. No discard race, so the teams that had managed to bring home three constant results were favored. Final result: 1 DEN-21, 2 GER-88, 3 NED-32.
Positive with such light conditions was that all 50 FD's on the entry list actually managed to put in some results. And with this year's first tan on the face, some excellent coffee and cake in the stomach we could all drive home nice and early. Next year we'll come back for some more wind again!

P.S. I do hope our English friends Tony Lyall and Colin Burns managed to get home eventually. They'd scheduled to fly home, but due to the ash cloud that has hung over Europe these last days they couldn't and had to fight to book a ferry home...
